# gst: stagnation points controlling the onset and strength of chaotic fluctuations (in viscoelastic porous media flows)

<< Viscoelastic porous media flows become chaotic beyond critical flow conditions, impacting processes including enhanced oil recovery and targeted drug delivery. Understanding how geometric details of the porous medium affect the onset and strength of the chaotic flows can lead to fundamental insights and potential optimization of such processes. Recently, it has been argued that geometric disorder in the medium suppresses chaotic fluctuations. In contrast, (AA) demonstrate that disorder can also significantly enhance fluctuations given a different originally ordered configuration. (AA) show that the occurrence of stagnation points in the flow field is the vital factor controlling the onset and strength of fluctuation, providing a general and intuitive understanding of how pore geometry affects this important class of complex viscoelastic flows. >>

Two opposing types of dynamics are identified: First, the random thermal waves can erode the solitary wave; second, this structure can grow as a result of this interaction. These two types of behavior depend on a dynamical property of the solitary wave (its angular frequency), and on a statistical property of the thermal waves (the chemical potential). >>

<< In 2013, the American virologist Ralph Baric approached Zhengli Shi at a meeting. Baric was a top expert in coronaviruses, with hundreds of papers to his credit, and Shi, along with her team at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, had been discovering them by the fistful in bat caves. In one sample of bat guano, Shi had detected the genome of a new virus, called SHC014, that was one of the two closest relatives to the original SARS virus, but her team had not been able to culture it in the lab. >>️

<< Baric had developed a way around that problem—a technique for “reverse genetics” in coronaviruses. Not only did it allow him to bring an actual virus to life from its genetic code, but he could mix and match parts of multiple viruses. He wanted to take the “spike” gene from SHC014 and move it into a genetic copy of the SARS virus he already had in his lab. The spike molecule is what lets a coronavirus open a cell and get inside it. The resulting chimera would demonstrate whether the spike of SHC014 would attach to human cells. >>️

# gst: apropos of 'disordered interactions', localization and dissociation of bound states and mapping to chaotic billiards concerning two particles on a chain

AA << consider two particles hopping on a chain with a contact interaction between them. At strong interaction, there is a molecular bound state separated by a direct gap from a continuous band of atomic states. Introducing weak disorder in the interaction, the molecular state becomes Anderson localized (exponential localization of all energy eigenstates,). At stronger disorder, part of the molecular band delocalizes and dissociates due to its hybridization to the atomic band. (AA) characterize these different regimes by computing the density of states, the inverse participation ratio, the level-spacing statistics and the survival probability of an initially localized state.  >>️

<< The atomic band is best described as that of a rough billiard for a single particle on a square lattice that shows signatures of quantum chaos. In addition to typical ``chaotic states'', (AA) find states that are localized along only one direction. These ``separatrix states'' are more localized than chaotic states, and similar in this respect to scarred states, but their existence is due to the separatrix iso-energy line in the interaction-free dispersion relation, rather than to unstable periodic orbits. >>

# gst: a scenario in which System Theory meets Poetry, bird's-eye vistas into a primitive chaos

<< The notion of primitive chaos was proposed [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 79, 15002 (2010)] as a notion closely related to the fundamental problems of physics itself such as determinism, causality, free will, predictability, and irreversibility. In this letter, (AA) introduce the notion of bird's-eye view into the primitive chaos, and (they) find a new hierarchic structure of the primitive chaos. This means that if we find a chaos in a real phenomenon or a computer simulation, behind it, we can clearly realize the possibility of tremendous varieties of chaos in the hierarchic structure unless we can see them visually. >>

A study << reports on the first-ever determination of the 3D atomic structure of an amorphous solid—in this case, a material called metallic glass. >>️
<< Because amorphous solids have been so difficult to characterize, the researchers expected the atoms to be arranged chaotically. And although about 85% of the atoms were in a disordered arrangement, the researchers were able to identify pockets where a fraction of atoms coalesced into ordered superclusters. << Labyrinth chaos was discovered by Otto Rossler and Rene' Thomas in their endeavour to identify the necessary mathematical conditions for the appearance of chaotic and hyperchaotic motion in continuous flows. Here, (AA) celebrate their discovery by considering a single labyrinth walks system and an array of coupled labyrinth chaos systems that exhibit complex, chaotic behaviour, reminiscent of chimera-like states, a peculiar synchronisation phenomenon. >>

 << As all Rossler’s pioneering contributions, labyrinth chaos still holds promise for very interesting further developments.
